The Burton Street Community is getting down this Saturday. Green Opportunities is presenting Burton Steet Community Day. One of the oldest neighborhoods in West Asheville is going to be hosting a day full of events for all ages.
I’m encouraging all West Ashevillians to come out, check out the Peace Garden and meet some of your neighbors.
Things to get excited about:
Put down the keys and hop on your bike, it’s bike to work week! Once a year, the community of Asheville is encouraged to try alternative modes of transportation for one week. Last night Strive Not to Drive kicked off the week with a Bike Corral at Downtown After 5. Despite the thunder clouds, bikers locked up their bikes and snagged a button. Commuters this week will be able to take part in several activities around town, and morning breakfast stops around town. Check out the full schedule online at strivenottodrive.com.
I was really excited to team up with Strive Not to Drive’s Ching Fu to market this important effort. A kick-ass logo, buttons, and posters made for a great grassroots campaign. I encourage you all to wake up a few minutes early this week, embrace helmet hair and take on the hills. After all, showing your support could lead to more bike paths, greenways, and bike aware drivers around Asheville.
